Learning a language at the University of Bath is a rewarding experience. Whether you want to make the most of a holiday abroad, study for career progression, meet new people in a friendly and welcoming environment, or keep your brain active by doing something new, our language courses are the perfect choice.
When you study with us, you will join a vibrant learning community made up of members of the public and University staff and students. All of the courses that we offer to members of the public are also available to our students and staff, so your class will have an interesting and diverse mix of enrolled participants.
Our courses are designed to increase your cultural awareness and communication skills, and build your confidence to travel, work or live abroad, opening doors worldwide.
We teach Japanese, with teaching including the Hiragana and Katakana Japanese alphabets, alongside some Kanji. We teach from stage 1.1 (complete beginner) through to stage 2.2 (for students at CEFR A1/A2 level), and if you’re just getting started you can also join our Introduction to Japanese script classes for free. Whatever level you’re studying, there are also optional exam preparation workshops running in the spring, which you can also join for free if you’d like to study for a qualification to recognise your language skills.
