What this course offers
The Association for Environment Conscious Building (AECB) offers this online course to help you develop skills and confidence in using the Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) for building performance modelling. You will learn how to use PHPP modelling and design software to assess and improve the performance of existing and new buildings.
The course includes 13.5 hours of live online teaching and around 5 hours of independent study to complete a practice project. No previous PHPP experience is required.

- How to use PHPP modelling and design software
- How to assess and improve the performance of existing and new buildings
- Building design and performance modelling using PHPP
- Heat loss, primary energy, components, shading, overheating, ventilation, domestic hot water (DHW) and services
- How to use PHPP as a design tool to support building performance standards
What you’ll do
- Take part in live online teaching sessions and practical exercises
- Build a model for a real semi-detached house
- Explore model changes for a new-build project
- Complete a practice project and review it with the tutor
- Ask questions and receive feedback throughout the course
What happens next
After completing the course, you will have practical experience using PHPP and increased confidence in building performance modelling. Graduates can claim 16 PHI credit points towards renewal of a Certified Passivhaus Designer/Consultant or Tradesperson certification.
