What this course offers
This free course is designed for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) learners who want to develop their literacy, speaking and listening skills. This includes reading, writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar, while working towards an accredited course.
It can also be taken alongside an ESOL conversation course for additional speaking practice.
Open to Bristol residents aged 19+ with few or no qualifications, sessions take place on Tuesdays.
What you’ll learn
- How to find basic information in a text
- Vocabulary, including how to spell common and personal words
- How to order words using the alphabet
- How to use full stops and capital letters
- How to complete forms using upper and lower case letters and personal details
- How to share ideas and opinions in group discussions
- Grammar skills, including subject-verb agreement and simple present tense
- How to identify and use nouns and verbs
- How to use Padlet to access learning and homework
- Using a notebook to record homework, new words and spellings
What happens next
By the end of the course, you’ll have had opportunities to improve your literacy, speaking and listening skills, develop your vocabulary, and strengthen your spelling, punctuation and grammar skills.
