What this course offers
This free Essential Maths Skills course is for learners aged 19+ (in August 2026) with few or no qualifications.
You’ll learn and improve techniques and strategies for studying Functional Skills Maths, while building confidence in managing time, using revision strategies, accessing learning resources and preparing for assessments.
The course runs on Tuesdays from 22 September 2026 to 15 December 2026.
What you’ll learn
- How to apply addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve practical problems involving money, time and quantities
- How to calculate using metric units, work with perimeter, area and volume, and interpret spatial information in real-life contexts such as DIY and travel
- How to read and create charts, tables and graphs, use averages, and tackle multi-step problems by selecting appropriate methods and formulas
- How to explain your reasoning when solving problems
- How to manage your time, use revision strategies, access learning resources and reflect on your progress to prepare effectively for assessments
What happens next
You’ll improve the techniques and strategies needed to study Functional Skills Maths and prepare for future learning and assessments.
