What this course offers
This free Functional Skills English course helps you work towards a nationally recognised qualification. It is suitable for learners aged 19 and over (in August 2026) with few or no qualifications who are working at Entry Level 3 or above. You will develop the confidence and practical English skills needed for everyday life, further learning and employment, including reading, writing, speaking, listening and communication.
The course takes place on Fridays.
What you’ll learn
- How to understand and interpret a range of everyday and workplace texts
- How to write clear, accurate and purposeful communications
- How to improve your speaking and listening skills through discussions, presentations and collaborative activities
- How to use English confidently in everyday situations, including work, education and community settings
- How to prepare for a nationally recognised Functional Skills English qualification

What happens next
