What this course offers

This free community gardening course helps you learn practical growing skills while creating and caring for a community garden. It is for Bristol residents aged 19 years plus (in August 2026) with few or no qualifications. The course takes place on Thursdays and includes support with finding work, volunteering opportunities and further training.

What you’ll learn

  • How to grow, tend and harvest seasonal food crops through hands-on experience
  • How to prepare soil, identify plants and sow seeds
  • Sustainable, wildlife-friendly growing practices

What you’ll do

  • Create and care for a community garden
  • Work with other learners to care for the Grow Wilder beds
  • Make collective decisions about what to grow and cook
  • Take part in shared growing and cooking activities, developing confidence, wellbeing and social connection

What happens next

By the end of the course, you will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and relationships to continue growing independently. If you choose, this course can feed into the Grow Wilder Grow It Keep It programme and future accredited horticulture learning on site.
