What this course offers

This course is for Bristol residents aged 19 and over with few or no qualifications. It provides a safe and supportive space where you can develop your literacy skills through life skills activities.

The course runs every Tuesday from 29 September 2026 to 10 November 2026, excluding 27 October 2026.

What you’ll learn

  • How to create written communication, such as a polite email or enquiry message, to express a personal need or ask for help
  • How to identify and record personal goals and action steps in written or digital formats
  • How to take part in supportive group discussions by listening actively and sharing your own thoughts and ideas
  • How to read and follow step-by-step instructions through activities such as creating a piece of art or cooking a recipe
  • How to use online maps or local directories to research future aspirations, such as a volunteering opportunity, hobby class or local college course

What happens next

By the end of the course, you will have developed literacy skills through life skills activities, recorded personal goals and action steps, and researched future aspirations using digital tools.
