Sight Support West of England – Digital Skills Courses

What this course offers

These digital skills courses are for blind and partially sighted people who want to use a smartphone or tablet with greater confidence. There are two courses to choose from, depending on your level of sight and the support you need. Both courses are delivered over two sessions.

Introduction to Smart Device Accessibility

This course is for people who have some usable vision and want to make their smartphone or tablet easier to use.

What you’ll learn

• How to use built-in accessibility features
• How to adjust text size, magnification and contrast settings
• How to use voice assistants and voice commands
• Ways to make text and screen content easier to see and use

Introduction to VoiceOver and TalkBack – Screen Reader Course

This course is for people who have little or no usable vision and want to use a smartphone or tablet through spoken feedback.

What you’ll learn

• How screen readers work
• How to use VoiceOver (Apple) or TalkBack (Android)
• Touch gestures used to navigate your device
• How to read text, send messages, make calls and use apps with spoken feedback

What happens next

Courses run at locations across the region throughout the year. If group learning is not suitable, one-to-one digital skills support may also be available.
