What this course offers
This free HGV Category C training course is for adults aged 19 and over who want to start a career as a professional driver. A Category C licence allows you to drive rigid vehicles weighing up to 32 tonnes, commonly used for local and domestic deliveries.
With a Category C licence, you can drive a range of vehicles, including:
- Most haulage trucks
- Fire engines
- Bin collection vehicles
- Large removal trucks
The licence also allows you to drive vehicles covered by the Category C1 licence.
Who this course is for
To take part, you must:
- Be aged 19 or over
- Hold a car driving licence
- Be medically fit to drive
- Be unemployed or earning less than £25,000 per year
- Be able to attend 100% of the course
Mandatory information session
You must apply and attend a mandatory online information session to provisionally secure your place.

At the session, you will meet your tutor, learn what to expect from the course and complete initial enrolment checks. Please have your driving licence and National Insurance number ready.
Important: Applying for the course does not guarantee a place. Your place will only be confirmed after you attend the session and complete your enrolment.
What happens next
After gaining your Category C licence, you may be able to apply for professional driving roles within the logistics and transport sector.
