There are currently lots of openings to be an HGV driver in the West of England and by delivering life’s essentials such as food, medicines, clothing and fuel amongst other products, you will be helping to support local economies and communities throughout the region and across the UK.

What’s it like to be an HGV driver?

Being an HGV driver is much more than just driving. You are the face of your business, communicating with customers every day. You’ll also be responsible for delivering very valuable goods and for loading and unloading the products. The role presents an opportunity to be your own boss and to use the latest leading-edge technology to provide a first-class customer service.

Logistics providers are now offering a range of working patterns with increased flexibility. If you’d like to be working during the day, prefer working weekends or nights, or want to take advantage of four days on and four days off, there’s now something for everyone considering a career as an HGV driver.

Who can become an HGV driver?

Simply anyone over the age of 18. It’s a job where background does not matter – drivers come from all walks of life. If you like the sound of driving for a living then you can be a fully-fledged driver by the age of 19 and earn £28,000 to £50,000 plus a year, depending on experience.

You’ll be supported with extensive training along your career journey, both at the start and during it, to continuously update your skills in line with advances in vehicles and technology which is increasingly playing a critical role in the efficient delivery of goods.

You will need to be passed as medically fit by a doctor and it can take just 6 to 8 weeks until you are fully qualified.
